Sacred Origin
Vishnu Sahasranamam — the "Thousand Names of Vishnu" — is a sacred hymn from the Anushasana Parva of the Mahabharata. It is one of the most revered Stotras in the Vaishnava tradition, chanted by millions on Ekadasi as the most auspicious path to divine grace.
After the great war of Kurukshetra, the dying Bhishma Pitamah imparted this supreme knowledge to Yudhishthira. Lying on his bed of arrows, Bhishma revealed the one hymn that grants every boon a devotee could seek.
"Whoever recites these names on Ekadasi with devotion shall attain great peace of mind, patience, prosperity, mental strength, and freedom from fear."— Bhishma Pitamah, Anushasana Parva, Mahabharata
